Joanna Mingay MSTAT MAPA BWY. Ayurveda, yoga, Alexander technique
Joanna first became interested in Alexander Technique when she developed RSI problems while studying the flute at music college. She was immediately intrigued by the fact that she felt so much better after lessons, more energized, poised, confident and relaxed.
With a son just a few months old, her Alexander sessions helped her deal with the tiredness and stress she was feeling. How could an Alexander session do all this? And even better, she was learning how to do this for herself. Her RSI steadily improved as she learned a more integrated way to use her mind and body.
She later trained for three years full time as an Alexander teacher, where the training includes 16 hrs per week of hands on practice. Yoga is used as a means of understanding functional anatomy and it was at this time that she fell in love with both Yoga and Ayurveda. She qualified in Alexander Technique in 1995. Jo prefers not to specialise in any particular area making the work more challenging and creative for her.
Ayurveda and Yoga
Jo gained her degree in Ayurvedic Medicine in 2004, completing her clinical training in India the following year. Ayurveda compliments Alexander Technique since both are focused on finding balance in the mind and body. She is a fully qualified herbalist also using nutrition, diet and lifestyle, various therapies and yogic breathing techniques in her work. Jo is also a teaching member of the British Wheel of Yoga and offers individual or shared yoga sessions at the clinic.
